Jeff,

My goal is not to add make work projects, but I love the Name Selection Tool and often use it. As you've noted in your videos it is a tremendous time saver.

How difficult would it be to add the same functionality to "This Track Test" and "Avoid Track Test". I see significant time relief for me when I do my annual UDM assessments.

Let me know.

Terry

I'm more than willing to add a few more Name Selection Tool launch buttons to the Modify UDM screen in the UDM Wizard.

BUT --

If you want to use the Name Selection Tool to work with text fields other than rider or trainer such as Track, AvoidTrack, etc, --

You can do that right now - without having to wait for me to get the programming done.

Here's a link to a text file that contains a cut and paste of the output after running an example UDM through the Data Window with the data broken out BY TRACK:
http://www.JCapper.com/MessageBoard/Reports/Impact_Study_09072018.txt

Fyi, any time you execute a query in the Data Window with the data broken after selecting any of the "BY" options or "KEY FACTORS REPORT" in the factors drop down:

The Data Window automatically clears and populates the SampleSummary Table. (That's the table the Name Selection Tool is programmed to work with.)

--Hint:

• If you want to use the Name Selection Tool to work with track codes: Step #1 is to populate the SampleSummary table by executing a query in the Data Window with the data broken out BY TRACK.

• If you want to use the Name Selection Tool to work with trainer names: Step #1 is to populate the SampleSummary table by executing a query in the Data Window with the data broken out BY TRAINER.

• If you want to use the Name Selection Tool to work with rider names: Step #1 is to populate the SampleSummary table by executing a query in the Data Window with the data broken out BY RIDER.

• If you want to use the Name Selection Tool to work with factor names: Step #1 is to populate the SampleSummary table by executing a query in the Data Window after selecting KEY FACTORS REPORT from the factors drop down.

• After populating the SampleSummary table with data: Step #2 involves using the Name Selection Tool to create lists of names that fit desired parameters. (Or names you can use in UDMs and/or sql expressions.)

To get to the Name Selection Tool, bring up the Modify Screen in the UDM Wizard and click one of the Name Selection Tool launch buttons.

Screenshot:

Note that in the above screenshot I did not even select a UDM.

Also note that in the above screenshot I highlighted the Name Selection Tool launch button to the left of the Trainer field (even though I will be using the Name Selection Tool to work with Track Data in this example.)

Next screenshot:

The above screenshot shows the Name Selection Tool after I checked Enable SQL in Preview Box - and after I hand keyed a sql expression designed to highlight underperforming track codes - and after I clicked the Execute SQL button.

In case anyone wants to use it as a template going forward - here's a link to a text file that contains the sql expression from the above screenshot:
http://www.JCapper.com/MessageBoard/Reports/nameselectionsql_09072018.txt

Note that after executing the sql expression, the interface found 15 (underperforming) track codes in the SampleSummary Table - and displayed them in the lower preview window.

Next screenshot:

The above screenshot shows the Name Selection Tool after clicking the +All button to highlight the 15 (underperforming) track codes and clicking the Add Selected Names button (followed by answering Yes at the prompt) to display the highlighted names as a list separated by dash characters in the upper preview window.

--Hint: in this case the names happen to be track codes.

Next screenshot:

This screenshot shows the Name Selection Tool after manually highlighting the names list displayed in the upper preview window.

In this case the names happen to be track codes (even though I launched the Name Selection Tool using the button next to the Trainer field on the Modify screen of the UDM Wizard.)

• From here, with the names list highlighted, I can use CTRL-C to copy the highlighted names to the Windows Clipboard.

• And from there, I can use CTRL-V to paste the names list from the Windows Clipboard to any location I want --

Including:

a. The AvoidTrack field of a Playlist File Mode UDM.

b. Or into a line of sql like the one below so that I can add restriction for the 15 underperforming track codes to a sql udm:

and instr('MTH-CDX-ASD-GGX-CBY-SUN-FPK-FEX-RET-NPX-SWF-FER-SUF-SUD-KEE-', track) = 0

Hope I managed to type most of that out in a way that makes sense,

-jp
